More importantly, a reference from the company can add serious weight to your future work aspirations, even landing you a job which you would never have considered yourself capable of getting.

Get socialising and improve your confidence: not all rewards and success should be measured in terms of money! Yes, internships mean a few weeks or months out of your life without pay, but the end results could be fantastic, leading to a career which you always dreamed of succeeding in.
Get used to working and make life easier: the transition from graduate to full-time employee can be a harsh one for some, but internships ease the transition, allowing you to take on a new job at a manageable level that feels easy and enjoyable with it.
